Capitol Update - April 19, 2024

 UEN Legislative Update
April 19, 2024

Hello UEN School Leaders:

The House and Senate are striving to finish their work and adjourn the 2024 Session, perhaps sometime on Saturday. We are going to hold off on our regular weekly update and video until they have concluded their work.

We will cover details of all legislation passed in this final week of Session next week. Expect to see information from the Education Appropriations bill, which was approved by both chambers last night, including new policy language creating a prescriptive Chronic Absenteeism Policy mandating county attorney action (and lots of school district requirements). The bill also reinstates the March 1 open enrollment deadline for all open enrollment requests made after the enactment date of the bill. It appears that the House and Senate have agreed to a tax bill to expedite a lower flat income tax rate, and there will be other significant policies that will impact your school and students. The remaining unknown at the moment is the standings appropriations bill, which has not yet been released in either chamber.

Enjoy the weekend and we will catch up with you early next week on all the action from this week.
