UEN Associate Membership Criteria
Bylaws governing the Urban
Education Network of Iowa (UEN) provide for Associate Membership.
UEN Associate Membership is available to Iowa public school
districts with characteristics similar to those of the eight UEN
districts, e.g., size, demographics, etc.
UEN Associate Membership
is available to districts with 5,000 or more students, and districts
with 3,000 students combined with 40% or more of the student
population identified as free/reduced price.
Please note that UEN
Associate Membership is NOT to be considered in-lieu-of membership
in other organizations serving school districts and administrators,
e.g., IASB; SAI. The UEN works closely with these and other
organizations on behalf of all students.
Associate Membership would
entitle district participation in lobbying efforts, including UEN
analysis of legislation; distribution to board members and
superintendent of IALNS legislative reports (to which UEN
subscribes), and UEN Day at the Capitol (each district is scheduled
for one day). Also, Associate Member districts are invited to
participate in the UEN Annual Meeting (scheduled every November);
and participate in UEN Job-Alike meetings. Job-Alike meetings are
scheduled periodically for those staff members with the same or
similar performance responsibilities. These include personnel
working with: Curriculum/Assessment; Early Childhood/Day Care;
Professional Development; Human Resources; Technology;
Communications/Community Services and others. Meetings of these
groups are generally held in Des Moines.
